Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a form of mixed martial arts. It has gained a lot of popularity. In order to excel in any kind of art, one needs to be equipped with the right type of gears. Same is the case with this art form. All the essential jiu jitsu gear needs to be present with a person, who is a beginner in this art form. Having an appropriate gear, is crucial to their career.

The sport includes plenty of gears that can be bought. However having a few of them is essential. The first among them is the jiu jitsu gi. It is also referred as a kimono. It consists of a top and pants. It needs to be worn during the matches. However, wearing them during practice sessions is also recommended. Comfort is one of the most important elements that should be given a consideration. While playing the matches it is important for one to be comfortable.

There are two kinds in which the gear is generally available. Lightweight gear and heavyweight gear are the two types. The material by which they are composed does not differ. The only difference is in the quantity of material used to make them. As the name suggests, less quantity of material is used to make the lightweight gear while more quantity is used to make the heavyweight gear. The basic advantage associated with a lightweight gear is that it is more comfortable than the heavyweight gear. Having said that, the advantage offered by the heavyweight gear is that the opponent would not be able to get a good grip of your kimono.

The weave that the gear has is also one of the important things to be considered. The single weave is the first kind of weave. The lightweight gear is usually made up of a single weave. Out of all the type of weaves, this is considered to be the most comfortable. Having said that, it also has the maximum chances of getting ripped off easily. The second type of weave is the double weave. Kimonos made up of this weave are very durable. The heavyweight gear is the one made up of this kind of weave. The next type of weave would be the gold weave, which is considered to be somewhere between the single weave and the double weave. A major issue with it however is that it usually shrinks after being washed. As a result of this the one who opts for the gold weave normally buys a bigger size. Out of all the available weaves, the pearl weave is considered to be the best.

There are a lot of sizes in which the kimonos are available. It thus becomes easy to choose the right size. Seven sizes are usually available. A0 to A6 is the range of the available sizes. It is not very easy to obtain the sizes A5 and A6. This is because they are meant for individuals who are rather huge and thus their availability is limited. A2 and A3 are the sizes which people most often purchase. The size A0 is the one which kids that are huge normally go for.

One of the other most essential gears is the belt. It basically signifies the status or the rank of the person. A beginner starts with a white belt. With the increase in the level of the proficiency achieved by the player, the color of the belt also changes. The last one is the black belt. This level is usually not reached before ten to twelve years.
